What do you dream of?

Edit: Lol, I just realized I combined the 3 major elements of dA. Photography, Traditional Art and Digital Art.

The original piece is 2500x1652 pixels and it took me about 5 hours to make.

This is my second entry for the Wacom contest, Bring your vision to life. The theme is 'Dreams'.

And remember, you can help most by adding this to your favorites or having your friends add it between 12:00:00 AM (PT) December 16, 2009 and 11:59:59 PM (PT) December 22, 2009.

Thanks in advance!

haha the lion looks awesome and so does the photograph, but those two combined + a rainbow... I just laughed my ass off xD I realize dreams won't be anywhere near realistic, but you might as well gimme unicorns, pink bunnies and well... rainbows right now

This isn't exactly a opinion of your art, rather what it has let me to imagine. While I realize I'm usually quite outrageous or just plain weird with these things, but there you have it... my comment.

If we're talking about technical work here... the combination is, sorry to say, even more outrageous than I am. Not the concept, but the skills you put into combining the 3 images. Lion and scenery... ok they don't exactly "blend" together, but the rainbow... now that is just... =_= *umph*

My "blending" skills are indeed not top notch and it's more about the idea behind it. It isn't called "Tell Me" for nothing. Apparently you didn't see but it's a black and white lion telling us what he dreams of the most, namely color.
Still, I'd like to thank you for your opinion and comment:)

While I understand the concept behind this work, I have to say that the combination of traditional, digital and photography is a bit... upsetting for the eye. The idea is good because, as you said, it shows the three main categories on dA but the transition between them is a bit underdone. You could work more on the details of the lion, adding shading on the mane, for example; on the rainbow, making the colors less vivid so that they don't make such an unnatural contrast with the black and white piece (although I must say that I like the fact that the rainbow starts out black and white and gradually gains color); also, pick a better photo, one with more color (a photo of a sunset in the savanna would work just fine, one with a vivid red and orange sky, so as to provide continuity with the colors of the rainbow).
Other than that, the only thing I can say is that if you want to win dA's Wacom contests, you'll have to spend more than 5 hours on a work

Good luck!

Thank you for your opinion, and I must say, a photo of a sunset in the savanna would indeed be better.

The 5 hours on this work is without the drawing of the lion because I had already made and uploaded it to dA;)

I love how you make the change between black and white to colour. The composition is interesting with the 'rainbow' helping the eye move from left to right and linking the two sides of the image together.

I love how you've drawn the lion, he looks like you could just reach out and touch him.

This is a very interesting piece you should be very happy with it.

Very interesting idea, and it's played out quite nicely. I love how it goes from sketch to photography. Awesome work. :)
